Unlimited video editing subscriptions compared on cost per finished video

Editing subscriptions ranked by what one finished video costs, worked out from each plan’s published price and video count, and what “unlimited” means on each.

Published

Divide the monthly price by the videos you will actually get. On the plans that publish a count, that comes to $14 to $50 per short-form video across 8 plans, and $45 to $200 per long-form video across 8 plans. Plans that only promise “unlimited” can’t be compared that way until you ask how many finished videos a month a client like you really gets.

Every figure below comes from the company’s own pricing page, linked in each row with the date we read it. None of it is a rating.

Plans that mix short and long

ShortVids sells one bundle of short- and long-form videos per plan, so its cost is per video of either kind.

Some plans offer one kind or the other. Vidpros and VidChops appear in both tables above: you get the short-form count or the long-form count, not both.

What “unlimited” really means

“Unlimited” on a pricing page almost always has a limit somewhere else on the page. These are the ones the companies state themselves:

  • One video at a time. VidChops says it works on one of your videos at a time and starts the next when that one is done; you can queue as many as you like. Video Husky says the same in its FAQ, and adds that its clients get 4 to 6 videos finished a month on average. ShortVids caps active requests by plan: 1 on StartUp, 3 on Growth.
  • Revisions use up your output. Vidpros offers unlimited revisions, but each round counts toward your monthly output, and output doesn’t roll over.
  • Credits expire. EditVideo.io’s monthly video credits reset each billing cycle and unused ones expire. Videos with heavy motion graphics or several revision rounds can use more than one credit.
  • Hours, not videos. Flocksy sells daily hours of a creative team that also does design (its 2 Daily plan is $1,199/month billed annually ($1,699 month to month)), and unused hours roll over for 30 days. ManyPixels sells a number of daily outputs, shared across design and video.
  • A budget, not unlimited. Superside’s plans start at a monthly minimum on an annual term, and unused budget rolls over for up to three months.
  • Annual only. Shootsta sells annual subscriptions of prepaid video credits and doesn’t offer month-to-month plans.

Plans that don’t publish a count

These plans publish a price but no number of finished videos, so they aren’t ranked above. Ask each one how many videos a month a client with your footage and turnaround needs actually gets, in writing.

Which kind of plan fits which team

  • One or two videos a week: a plan with a fixed monthly count (credits or a set number of videos) is easy to budget, and the tables above show what each one costs per video. Check what happens to unused credits.
  • Daily short-form: look at the short-form table and the active-request limit. One request at a time with a two-day turnaround caps you at roughly ten finished videos a month, whatever the plan says about “unlimited”.
  • Video plus design work: an hours-based creative subscription can cover both, but you’ll pay for design capacity too. Compare the cost per hour against what video alone would cost.
  • A few big videos a quarter: a monthly subscription is probably the wrong shape. See the per-video studios in the price index, or freelancer vs subscription vs in-house.

Before you sign anything, use the brief template so the first video tells you whether the plan is worth keeping.

Questions

How is cost per video worked out?

The plan’s monthly price divided by the number of finished videos the plan says it includes. Where a plan gives a range, such as 20 to 40 videos, you see the cost at both ends. Plans that don’t publish a count aren’t ranked.

Are these prices current?

Each row shows the date we read the company’s pricing page. Anything older than 30 days is re-checked every month, and changes are logged at the bottom of this page.

Did App369 hire any of these companies?

Every company here is labelled. “Researched, not hired” means the figures come only from the company’s own website.
